Association Management - Success Story
Problem
The Florida Energy Pipeline Association (FEPA) formed in 1989 to support a specific public policy issue; however, when the issue was resolved the association lost its purpose and lacked a clear mission. Consequently, over the ensuing years its membership diminished and the association faced closing its doors. In 2005 a few opinion leaders in the Florida energy pipeline industry invited Wilson & Associates (W&A) to help revitalize their statewide trade association. W&A worked with the association leadership to create Board roles, a strategic plan, administrative protocols, membership recruitment strategies, non-dues revenue opportunities, structured committees, events & conferences, member communications, and a web & social media presence. |

Result
Our work resulted in:
- Development of a fresh strategic vision for the organization
- 2500% increase in association membership over a 6 year period
- 434% increase in annual conference revenue over a 3 year period
- Financially stable organization, including a reserve policy
- Creation of a logo design to brand the association
- Regularly scheduled Board meetings
- Six active committees
Today, the FEPA Board of Directors includes every major energy pipeline operator serving the state, both natural gas and refined petroleum products. Its general membership includes firms providing services to both the Florida natural gas and electric industry.
FEPA now has a meaningful role in working with regulators and other stakeholders on the common goal of safe transportation of natural gas and refined petroleum products.
